Zijn stijl wordt vergeleken met die van Stevie Ray Vaughan, en hoewel commercieel succes hem is ontgaan, heeft hij een reputatie opgebouwd als live-act in de Verenigde Staten en Europa, eerst als een powertrio genaamd Monti Amundson &amp; The Blubinos, daarna onder zijn eigen naam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">Amundson en zijn band speelden vanaf de jaren tachtig Texas-blues in clubs in Eugene, Oregon. De band nam een \u200b\u200bzestal platen op in Portland en Eugene. &#8220;Big Monti&#8221; tekende bij een Nederlands label nadat het tweede album, Mean Eighteen, zo succesvol was dat hij naar Amsterdam verhuisde om een \u200b\u200bEuropese carri\u00e8re te beginnen. \u201cThe Mean Eighteen\u201d heeft in de loop der jaren drie cd-covers gehad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">Het is het album waarmee ik bij een platenlabel in Nederland heb getekend. Ik was nog niet zo lang in Nederland toen we voor het eerst in Maastricht optraden. In die tijd vond ik het leuk om de show te openen met \u2018Cruel Is Your Name\u2019. Ik was niet voorbereid op wat er daarna zou komen. Een paar honderd Nederlanders zongen de woorden mee. Over je kippenvel gesproken. Ik heb anderhalf jaar door Europa getourd voordat ik eindelijk thuiskwam.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">Een zijproject van hem is de Sultans of Slide, een groep slide-bluesgitaristen die vanaf 2009 af en toe shows uitvoerden, toen deze bestond uit Amundson, Franck &#8220;Paris Slim&#8221; Goldwasser, Jim Mesi, Bob Shoemaker en Ben Bonham.
