Toen de trein stopte, klommen de gemaskerde mannen aan boord. Machinist Jack Mills werd neergeslagen met een ijzeren staaf, waarna de bende de trein ontkoppelde en naar een nabijgelegen brug reed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<br>Daar laadden ze 120 geldzakken in hun vluchtvoertuigen. Binnen een kwartier maakten ze 2,6 miljoen pond buit \u2014 nu ruim 60 miljoen euro waard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<br>De bende dook onder op een afgelegen boerderij om het geld te verdelen. Hoewel ze de schuilplaats lieten schoonmaken, vergaten de schoonmakers de vingerafdrukken op een Monopolyspel te wissen. Mede daardoor kon Scotland Yard de meesten al snel oppakken. Hoewel zware foute keuzes en celstraffen volgden, werd de roof legendarisch.
